Seasonal Lottery

You can apply for a permit in advance. You can pick seven ranked days and times or windows of days and times you want to hike.  

Find the date you plan to be in Zion and use recreation.gov to apply for a permit during your application window. 

When to apply for hikes in 2026

Hike Dates  Lottery Opens 8 a.m. MT  Lottery Closes 11:59 p.m. MT  Permits Issued  

 March 1 to May 31 February 13February 25February 26

June 1 to August 31April 1April 20April 25

September 1 to November 30July 1July 20July 25

December 1 to February 28, 2027October 1October 20October 25

Note: It costs $6 to apply for a seasonal permit. The fee covers an application for up to 6 people (including the person filling out the application). This fee is non-refundable.
